New Ideas!

I have been mulling (or thinking) over an idea for the last few days that should help the classes out.  What I have decided is this:  you will now be allowed to decide which JOURNAL question for the week to which you want to respond.  That means you choose ONE JOURNAL QUESTION and still write the required one page front and back skipping lines.  I'm hoping this will allow you more time to really think about the journal prompt that you choose to respond to.  Your journal will still be due on Wednesdays!

Tomorrow is the Chapter 1-7 Quiz!  Be sure to review your questions!  Remember: setting is the YEAR and CITY, STATE they are in.

Explanation of Gershold Bulkley and Matthew's argument:  Bulkley thinks that The King of England should be allowed to rule Connecticut with a govenor that is appointed by the King.  Matthew wants the people of Connecticut to rule themselves without the King's input or thoughts.  **Remember, this is before America will decide to rebel against England in the Revolutionary War and take over ruling themselves (that happened in 1776--this is only 1687).

Many have asked, "What happened to Nat?"  He comes and goes in the book.  Keep in mind, he lives on a boat and the boat goes between Wethersfield and Saybrook through the Spring and Summer.  Be patient--he returns!

Something to think about...

Per a discussion in 6W, I have found out that (through research of calling other teachers and google) that people from Connecticut are called "Connecticuters" or even "Nutmeggers."  As I understand the website to say, they are called "nutmeggers" because their state spice is nutmeg.  However, "Connecitcutians" is gaining in popularity.  Typically, though, people in New England simply call themslves "New Englanders."

Now, I know what you're thinking.  A state spice?  Missouri does NOT have a state spice, so don't ask.

Thanks to google for that one,
Mrs. Doenges :)

Chapter 1-2 Quiz tomorrow!

Hey 6th Grade!  Just a reminder that Chapter 1-2 quiz is tomorrow.  Yellow and Green has discussion groups tomorrow BEFORE the quiz so be sure you have your questions ready so I can answer them!  Be sure you do the Chapter Questions for Ch 1&2 so you can be sure that you're getting the main events in the story.  If you've completed those, then you have a much better chance of doing well on the quiz tomorrow than if you didn't. HINT HINT.

Happy Studying! (Studying IS considered homework)

Something to think about...

As you're beginning to read The Witch of Blackbird Pond, I want you to think about something.

Would you rather:
... move away from your homeland?
... move to a foreign country to live with people you only knew through letters?
... work from sun up to sun-down with only a few moments to rest or play?
... marry someone to escape a situation you didn't like?
... risk your reputation to help a stranger?
... risk your life to help a friend?

WHY?  I don't need an answer for an assignment but think about whether you would be willing to do any or all of these things.

Happy Thinking!
Mrs. D :)

The Witch of Blackbird Pond

Hey guys!  Mrs. Doenges here!  We're starting The Witch of Blackbird Pond, and I've been looking for a way to make sure you get this information easily without cluttering up my Teacher's corner with tons and tons of pages!  I'm able to upload a "picture" of the assignment.  It will show up small but if you click on it, it will make the picture much larger!  Also, you can add some questions that you might have and comments.  Maybe you could start a discussion.  Who knows!  I hope this helps!
